Folk medicine has accomplished good results in its use. Due to its anti-inflammation and wound healing promotive effect it is used first of all in curing slowly healing wounds, bed-sore, burning, frost wounds, phlebitis and leg ulcer. In case of inflammation of the mucuous membrane in the mouth and the gums it is used for gargling.
It has been used in the folk medicine for a long time against digestation problems, spasm of the stomach, inflation, inflammation of the stomach and the intestiness. It is very effective on spasms of the pelvis and on menstruation problems.
Folk medicine has been using the leaves, the flowers and the fruit of hawthorn species native also in Hungary for a long time for preventing and curing heart diseases. Official medicine uses the teas made from the flowery branch-ends and the extracts containing water and alcohol.
Its most important area of use is increasing the immunity of the human organism against infections, the immunmodulant effect. According to our recent knowledge the polisacharid fraction, the sulphuric acid derivates and the alcilamins have immunological activity.
It has been used in the folk medicine for a long time against rheuma and gout, and in case of high blood pressure. Due its antibiotic and disinfectioning effect it can be used against hemorrhoidal problems as sit-bath, against eruptions as poultice, against throat inflammation as gargling. In case of falling hair, dandruff and fatty hair it can be used to rub in.
Externally: as for decreasing inflammations we offer it in form of gargling for the inflammation diseases in the mouth cavity (inflammation of the gums or inflammation of the mouth cavity) and in the pharynx. Internally: it can be used to decrease the symptoms of digestation problems, inflation, inflammation of the mucuous membrane of the intestives and diarrhea.
